'You can go home again.....so long as you understand that home is a place where you have never been' Ursula K. Le Guin

I grew up in Mount Pleasant, South Derbyshire. It was a mining area in my childhood, but it's now part of the National Forest. A few years ago you had to look hard to see the trees - we used to joke about the signs that said Welcome to the National Forest with no tree in sight. But the trees were seedlings then and they're growing now - one day soon they'll reach up to the old trees. I recently started to sketch and paint the fields and towns round about. Castle, Linton, Overseal and Swadlincote are changing but the trees and earth, the colours, remain the same. |
