Dress

I see them all in lines
like limp houris
floated in from limbo -

I know how they mould
to the bodies they once wore,
and how they once clothed a soul

and I am my dress today,
held together by gritted teeth,
unthreading secretly -

the half-mask for carnivals,
ritual gown for beginnings
and endings, silk for secrets,
velvet for wearing the night.
